MOSIL Lubricants Conducts Three-Day Residential Training on Steel Industry Applications for Its Sales Team and Channel Partners

July 21 2026

Workshop-format programme built around MOSIL's Quadra Approach; participants worked through live application cases and visited the company's Palghar manufacturing plant

MOSIL Lubricants Pvt. Ltd., a Mumbai-based manufacturer of specialty industrial lubricants, conducted a three-day residential training programme in Mumbai from July 9 to 11, 2026, focused on steel industry applications. The programme was conducted by MOSIL's in-house technical team and brought together 29 participants from MOSIL's sales team and its channel partner network from across India

The programme reflects MOSIL's view that specialty lubrication in the steel sector is an application problem before it is a product problem. Steel plants run bearings, gears, wire ropes and open gears under heavy loads, high temperatures and continuous duty. Selecting the right lubricant for such conditions requires a structured diagnosis of the application, not a product catalogue.

The training was built around MOSIL's Quadra Approach, the company's four-step method for every steel application: **Understand → Validate → Recommend → Implement**.

1. Understand:  identify the actual pain points on the shop floor and the maintenance team's expectations from a solution

2. Validate:  Verify the application conditions and operating data on site before any recommendation is made

3. Recommend:  Offer a solution backed by relevant data, performance reports and technical values

4. Implement:  Put the solution to work and prove it through actual field trials

Participants were also trained on preparing the TriboIntel Report, MOSIL's technical trial document that records field trial conditions, measurements and results for each application.

Unlike a conventional classroom programme, the training was run as a workshop. Each participant received a technical binder with only select information filled in. The remaining data had to be worked out by the participant, based on his or her own understanding of the application and the Quadra Approach.

“A steel plant does not buy grease. It buys a solution to downtime. Our team and our partners must be able to diagnose an application before recommending a product. This training was designed so that every participant works through that diagnosis himself, with real data in hand, instead of listening to a presentation about it" said Sachin Punde, National Sales Head – MOSIL Lubricants

“The binder format forced us to think like the customer's maintenance engineer. I am going back with a method I can apply on my next steel plant visit, not just notes" said  a participant who is a channel partner for Steel Industry in South India

The programme included a visit to MOSIL's manufacturing plant at Palghar, one of the company's two manufacturing locations, the other being at Mhape, Navi Mumbai. Participants observed grease manufacturing and quality testing processes at MOSIL’s Manufacturing Premises.

Leading Lubrication Trends: Innovations Driving Industrial Lubricants and Equipment Efficiency Understanding lubrication is always a very important aspect of machinery and is always taken for granted and treated like an expensive affair. But as the industry is evolving with new development, lubrication is getting its place and importance. Now, lubrication is fast-tracking in many sectors. Many industries witnessed success with effective and focused transformations being brought in lubrication fields. Making changes are often challenging as it means traversing down. It always has a question whether we will meet a dead end or open door to new opportunities for savings and enhanced productivity? But now many of us are assured that it is always rewarding to have systematic changes in lubrication. As a result, an increasing number of companies are setting trends for proper lubrication schedules as well as using a quality lubricant. The graph of lubrication fields is advancing day by day today with high intensity and pace which has been never seen before in the world of the industrial revolution, especially in terms of lubrication. Explore the Latest Trends in Industrial Lubricants and Specialty Lubrication Savings in Filtration Cost: Cleaning of lubricating oil can be expensive and tricky for many users. One should deploy off-line filtration systems which can significantly reduce the cost and enhance the efficiency of oil. It optimizes the cost of lubricant and lubrication as well. Preventive Measures of Lubrication Have a Momentous Effect on Lubrication Cost: Adequate lubrication through preventive and predictive maintenance will always provide beneficial and fruitful results to the users. Many benefits can be achieved through preventive lubrication such as maintenance cost, equipment cost, corrosion protection cost, etc. Precise Viscosity: Nowadays, the selection of industrial lubricants based on precise viscosity is getting renewed attention. As we all know, viscosity affects major important factors including but not limited to consumption of electricity, wear, tolerance to contaminants, etc. Viscosity index is also an important factor which is related to viscosity. Replacing Grease with Oil in Operation: Critical Applications: There is a big debate going on between grease and oil. But nowadays, the debate is shifting and tilting towards oil in a range of reliability - critical industrial lubricant application. Monitoring the Useful Life of Lubricant: Monitoring the useful life of a lubricant is an important aspect and is one of the primary objectives of oil analysis. Eg: Tracking of progressive depletion of additive and oil provides a good estimate of the remaining useful life of the lubricant. Quality Formulated Lubricant: There are many local brands available in the market, out of which very few have the quality to be used in your machines. As well there are many premium brands available that are formulated for quality and performance. They are on the expensive side but fill an important niche in the market. Understanding In-Depth About the Application: This is very important and trending in the industrial application as now users are understanding the importance of the precise selection of specialty lubricants based on the working condition of machines for improved efficiency of machines. Lubrication Expiration Dates: One should understand that industrial lubricants are not wine, the older the better. As lubricants have their own shelf life, the users are now getting aware and use the expiration date markings on the lubricants package before usage. Optimizing Re-Lubrication Frequency: Many are changing their view and revisiting their lubrication schedule and changing their decisions relating to re-greasing and oil drain intervals. This will help in improvisation of the use of lubricants for the extended service life of lubricants leading to increased efficiency of machines. The revolution of new technology and the need to enhance plant reliability are renovating the face of lubrication today. These are thrilling days for those who were waiting for the change in the lubrication field. Grab this opportunity and stay ahead of the fleet of industries and reap the benefits. Understanding Lubricant Churning

LUBRICANT CHURNING ABSTRACT Heavy-duty gear drives operating at high speeds which transmit high powers tends to have a considerable friction power loss. These power losses transform into heat, therefore the operating temperature of the transmissions has to be calculated with all the power-dependent and power independent losses taking into consideration. The efficiency of gear drives depends upon many factors; mainly on the tooth and bearing friction losses, but besides them, in certain circumstances, lubricant churning losses also need to be taken into consideration. KNOW MORE Let's understand about Lubricant Churning and how does it affect the lubricating parts like gears, bearings, and the gear oil itself.   TORQUE Bearings and gears require a force to begin turning and to continue rotating once they are set in motion. The measurement of this force is referred to as torque. Starting torque is usually more than the running torque. These forces are variable depending on several parameters. FACTORS OF CHURNING It can be compared to walking into the shallow waters. If you reach ankle-deep water, it is still fairly easy to move (equivalent to running torque). However, if you go further into deeper water, it becomes much more difficult to walk. This requires you to work harder and causes you to exhaust out quicker. If the lubricant level is high due to much gear oil is added and the bearings are over-greased, the machine needs to work harder to push through the added lubricant. This is the basis of that churning condition. COMPARISON It can be compared to walking into the shallow waters. If you reach ankle-deep water, it is still fairly easy to move (equivalent to running torque). However, if you go further into deeper water, it becomes much more difficult to walk. This requires you to work harder and causes you to exhaust out quicker.   The same thing happens to a machine when the lubricant level is much more than required. It works much harder to push through the lubricant, which results in higher operating temperatures, decreased efficiency, and a reduction in the life of both the lubricant and the machine. ROLE OF INDUSTRIAL LUBRICANT Besides the lubricant level, another factor is the Industrial lubricant being used. As the most important physical property of a lubricant is viscosity, the proper viscosity must be selected according to the speed, load, temperature, and general running conditions of the machine. If the viscosity is low, then excess friction due to metal-to-metal contact is generated, causing machine wear and chances of premature failure. If the viscosity is more, this leads to viscous drag, which causes very similar issues as having a lubricant level that is too high. Neither of these situations is desirable for the equipment. By choosing the right Industrial lubricant as well as ensuring the appropriate lubricant level, you can give your equipment the best chance for error-free operation.
